The Shetland Sheepdog, is a breed of herding dog, which known also with the name Sheltie. The temperament of the pretty dog is of the herding dog. They are vocal, excitable, energetic dogs who are always willing to please and work hard. They are partly derived from dogs used in Shetland for herding and protecting sheep. The Sheltie are small to medium body dogs, with variety of coat colors, for example as Sable/White, Tri-color, Blue Merle, and so forth.
The early history of the Shetland Sheepdog is not well-known yet. They were originally a small mixed-breed dog, often 8–10 inches (200–250 mm) in height. From the start, the beliefe was that the original breed of this dog, came from Spitz type, and after that were crossed with dog from Collie family from mainland Britain. In the early 20th century, James Loggie added a small show Rough Collie to the stock, and the modern Shetland sheepdog was established . The original name of the breed was ‘Shetland Collie’, but this caused controversy among Rough Collie breeders, and the breed’s formal name was changed to Shetland Sheepdog.
Basicly the weight of the Sheltie is around 5 to 14 kg which is 11-31 lb, and the males examples of the breed are taller and heavier than females. Accepted height ranges may differ depending on country and standard used. In the USA and Canada, breed standards state that males and females can be between 33–41 centimetres (13–16 in), all other standards (Australia, New Zealand and U.K.) specify Males: 37cm ± 2? cm, Females: 35.5 cm ± 2? cm except F.C.I. which specifies Females: 36 cm ± 2? cm at the shoulder (withers), however, some shelties can be found outside of these ranges but are not considered truly representative of the breed.
