This is a breed of dog with medium-sized body which is hound dog and its origins comes from Austrian province of Styria. The Styrian Coarse-haired Hound is bred as a scenthound, for hunting boar in mountainous terrain. The breed is one of the large Austrian Bracke.
The sizes of the Styrian Coarse-haired Hound is medium for dog body – height at the withers of 45-53 cm (17.5-21 in), and weight between 15-18 kg (33-40 lbs) with a well muscled body and a serious expression.
The name of the breed is connected with their own fur, which is harsh and rough (although not shaggy). The colors of the Styrian Coarse-haired Hound’s coat comes from red and fawn, and there is a white mark of the chest. The breed tolerates extremes of temperature well, and has remained a healthy breed through “refresher breeding” (Auffrischungszucht, outcrossing).
